Watch the free episodes
Nina's husband cancels on dinner with no notice, leaving her at home with his twenty-year-old son and a grievance. Date With My Stepmom is a five-episode series at twelve tokens an episode after the free two, scored 4 out of 5 here, and one of the nine titles on the platform that ends when the last episode ends, with nobody to keep talking to afterwards.
The cancelled dinner
The opening two episodes are the phone call, the wasted dress, and a conversation across a kitchen that gets more pointed by the minute. Forty per cent of the run, free, and nothing shown; the writing does its work with looks and a very deliberate glass of wine.
From the third course
Episode three is where the money and the explicit content begin, and this one goes further than most: a 4 out of 5, driven by the fact that the story has only two people in it and no reason to cut away. It is one of the tighter series on the platform, and its brevity is part of the appeal.
An actual ending
Thirty-six tokens finishes it, and finished means finished. Unlike most titles in the catalogue, no character is offered afterwards for conversation; when the fifth episode closes, the story is over. For some viewers that is a mark against it. For anyone who wants a complete story rather than an introduction, it is the opposite.
